This is a
guideline only and the final salary
is entirely up to you. Au Pairs
generally earn between R40 - R70/ hr
depending on the hours worked as
well as the Au Pairs experience.
Most families choose to pay a
monthly salary and this can range
from R2 000 - R15 000
per month depending once again on
hours worked and the Au Pairs
experience.
Normally this hourly rate does not
include travel. You can choose to
build it into their salary or ask
them to keep a log book and
reimburse them at the end of each
month. Payment for travel is usually
reimbursed at AA Rates. This only
includes travel while at work, and
does not include travel to and from
work so it can usually be worked
into the salary.
Before
choosing an au pair you need to
decide what salary you are willing
to pay. Remember though that these
are your children, and that high
calibre au pairs are more expensive
but are then more experienced and
qualified so you definitely get what
you pay for. Your children’s
well-being & sense of security is
more important than saving a few
hundred rand, so consider this
before deciding on a salary.
